The posters start presenting Volta's notion of electrical tension and his programme for standardised tension measurements with his straw electrometers. As a second step, the posters show how Volta's pioneering intuitions were further developed. The process took many decades and a consistent solution was attained by lord Kelvin with the quadrant electrometer
